September Newsletter and STEM

Newsletter and STEM

September Newsletter coming home on Thursday 8/31

Today was very exciting in math class.  Students are working on a STEM activity where they research the coldest places on EARTH.  Then they have to find the average, range and then survival gear for the extreme conditions.  Research and fun activities keep students engaged.

Growing Up in a Small Town

Growing Up in a Small Town

I was born in Savannah, GA and raised just north of Atlanta, GA.  Neither are very small towns.  I went to college a few exits north of downtown Atlanta.  So moving to the mid-west is a big difference, but a difference I LOVE.  I have been to sporting events at Georgia Southern University, University of Georgia and at Kennesaw State University, but nothing compares to Pittsburg State University.  The fans here are amazing.  Whether you have attended the school or not, the entire town supports the university.  Events like paint the town red or homecoming take over the entire city.  I am so excited Hollis gets to grow up in this small town of Pittsburg, KS.   Every year for the last three years, Hollis has been able to participate in Pitt State's Youth Football Camp (pictures to follow).

Excited to say that Little Balkans Days are coming up on Labor Day weekend and all the Homecoming activities for the little towns around start.  READY FOR FALL.

First Day of School 2017

First Day of School

Hollis and I both survived our first days of school on Friday!
First
Year 4 Education, Year 3 at PCMS

So the school gave us shirts to wear the first day of school.  It was my first year not dressing up to meet my kiddos.  The message behind the shirt is amazing.  The quote is on the back, but it required children to get out of the factories and forced them to receive a free public education.  I am a proud public school educator.

Back of the shirt!
Just wanted to add that Hollis got the teacher he really wanted and is so excited about 2nd grade.  Here is our family picture from meet the teacher night!

Homemade Pizza Lunchables

Homemade Pizza Lunchables

You know those moms that are always SUPER COOL and come up with ideas and things that are amazing and then you want to do it or your kid begs for it.  Well Josie King, you posted about your homemade pizza lunchables and I had to look into it!  I don't know about the crust yet, but I had to share what I did for the pizza sauce packets for all the moms out there that saw your post and went....ahhh...I so want that or my kid would so want that!  I also didn't have all the gadgets she had, or the money to go spend on pampered chef...WHICH I LOVE!!! So Amazon is a girls best friend and here is what I found. Zipzicle Zip Top
Hollis and I spent about 20 minutes filling 10 packets up with a jar of Ragu  spaghetti sauce that was on sale at Walmart for $0.50 and I stocked up on!  Hollis wanted a bowl of just sauce after he tasted it, but that didn't happen!  I know I am not the coolest!

Hunt Pizza Sauce :)

NOW TO FIGURE OUT PIZZA CRUST!

WE CAN BUY CHEESE & TOPPINGS!

THANKS JOSIE 😘

Rock Hunting Summer of 2017

Summer 2017 in Pittsburg, KS

Our last name may be Hunt, and this may seem weird, but we are AVID rock hunters!  We hit the parks and memorials daily and sometimes twice daily.  Our dinner table is constantly covered in paper to protect it from paint and we have every color acrylic paint you could imagine.  Life at the Hunt Household is all about rock hunting.  Our puppy Sophie absolutely loves it.  Probably because she gets to go for walks all the time!  This rock and meme describe our house for the two months.
I had a wonderful friend tell me to make a photo album of our rock pictures, but what better way to blog about it and share with everyone?

Rocks we have painted:

Quilt rocks are always neat.  Some we never saw again and others we saw only once.  Fun to make someone happy with our art items!

Rocks we have found:

Hollis absolutely loved hunting rocks and hiding them again for others to find!  He would even sit on a bench with me to watch others out searching. We visited Miners Memorial, Veterans Memorial, Lincoln Park, Europe Park, Rotary Park, Schlanger Park, Deramus, Kiwanus, and PSU  at Gorilla Village/ University Lake or the Oval.

Friends rock hunted with us:

Loved that buddies would get excited to go hunting with us!  We love it and it shows!  Our love flows to others and we enjoy sharing the joy of rock hunting. Some have even wanted to paint with us or requested certain rock paintings!

This is the reason we paint and hide rocks!

Loved getting to paint and hide rocks with this crew!

Local Sonic got involved:

One day the local Pittsburg Sonic gave a free Slush to kids who brought in painted rocks until the store closed.  The yellow rock with sunglasses is the one Hollis painted.  Then they took the time to hide them all over town and let kids bring them back for a free slush.  The red, black and blue painted rock with Sonic on it is the one Hollis found to return. One Lucky Boy!!

Won train tickets:
So thankful for Watco (train company) here in Pittsburg, KS.  They hid three rocks around town and this crazy boy found 1 and won 2 train tickets in September during Little Balkan Days.  We bought a third ticket so the entire family could ride!  Can't wait for that 11 am train ride!
